⭐ ASSESS LOCOMOTOR & JUMPING SKILLS WITH ONE CONSISTENT RUBRIC SYSTEM
Locomotor skills are the foundation everything else in PE is built on. A student who can't skip, slide, or land a jump with control will struggle in every game and sport that comes later.
This bundle gives you 9 complete assessment packets for traveling, hopping, and jumping skills, from the first gallop in kindergarten to the standing long jump and tuck jump. Every skill uses six cues, four formats, and one scoring rubric, so you can track how students move from the very start.
🎯 PURPOSE AND BENEFITS OF THIS BUNDLE
Catch gaps early. Locomotor skills develop fastest in the primary grades. Assessing them now shows you which students need extra support before those gaps show up in sport skills.
See the building blocks connect. Galloping and slide stepping share the same step-together pattern in different directions. Skipping adds the hop. One foot hopping and two foot jumping lead straight into the standing long jump. The cues help you see where each student is in that progression.
Assess with no equipment. Every skill in this bundle needs nothing more than open space, so you can assess anywhere, anytime.
📋 THE 9 SKILLS IN THIS BUNDLE
Traveling Skills: Galloping • Slide Stepping • Skipping • Leaping • Sprinting
Hopping & Jumping: One Foot Hopping • Two Foot Jumping • Standing Long Jump • Tuck Jump
Every skill has six cues, and each cue is paired with an illustrated figure showing the correct position.
💡 TEACHING NOTES FOR THIS BUNDLE
AAssess traveling skills with small groups moving across the floor between two lines of cones. When the whole class moves at once, it's hard to watch any one student long enough to score six cues.
Follow the natural progression: gallop, then slide, then skip. Skipping is the hardest of the three because it combines a step and a hop, so assess it last.
Stand to the side for the jumping skills. You'll see the arm swing, the takeoff, and the landing much more clearly from there than from the front.
For the tuck jump and standing long jump, pay close attention to the landing. A soft, balanced landing is a skill in itself, and it's the part students most often skip.
Standard: SHAPE America Standard 1, develops a variety of motor skills.
✅ KEY FEATURES OF THIS BUNDLE
FOUR COMPLETE ASSESSMENT FORMATS FOR EVERY SKILL: Teacher Pre-Test/Post-Test, Teacher Single Test, Self-Assessment, and Peer-Assessment. All four share the same six cues, the same visuals, and the same scoring rubric. Only the voice changes, so you can compare results across formats directly.
ONE SYSTEM ACROSS ALL 11 SKILLS: Every packet uses the same layout, response columns, and medal scale. Students spend their time on the skill, not on learning a new sheet.
SIMPLE RESPONSE COLUMNS: Students and teachers circle "got it" or "working on it." There's no rating scale to explain.
REFLECTION PROMPTS: The self and peer sheets close with "What did I do well?" and "What can I work on?"
BUNDLE BONUS, AN EDITABLE EXCEL DATA GRADING SHEET: It's included as a separate file and isn't available with the individual packets. Use it to track scores by class and skill in one place.

🏆 WHY THESE RUBRICS WORK IN A REAL PE CLASS
CLEAR EXPECTATIONS: Students see exactly what they're being assessed on before they're assessed on it, so the cues become the lesson.
CONSISTENT EVALUATION: The same structure across 11 skills means your data compares from unit to unit and year to year.
STUDENT OWNERSHIP: Self and peer versions move students from being assessed to assessing. A student checking a partner's follow-through is learning that cue too.
STANDARDS-BASED REPORTING: The scoring rubric produces a defensible number for report cards and conversations with administrators.
